Vintage wedding dresses accessories: gloves

While we may think of gloves as a very traditional or conservative wedding accessory, they can actually be worn in a very modern way. The most dramatic idea is to wear a pair in a strong color like black or red. This look has been cropping up on designer runways at bridal shows and it definitely makes a strong statement.

Gloves are available in a variety of fabrics and lengths. Bridal gloves should match the color of your gown, be it white, diamond white, or ivory. Silk gloves are very elegant, and might be the best color match if your wedding dress is also silk. Cotton gloves (with just a touch of spandex) are another very nice option. They are great if you want a glove that has no sheen at all. Other choices include spandex or matte spandex, which tend to be a lower quality than the cotton or silk gloves. Ivory velvet gloves are luxurious for a winter wedding.

These chic gloves work best with high fashion wedding gowns with an edgy haute couture style. It is a fabulous way to add a bold color to your wedding attire without actually wearing a dress that has black or red on it. The best length of gloves for you will depend on the style of your gown and the length of your arms. Gloves can usually be shortened, by the way, if you need an in-between length. The shortest gloves come just to the wristbone. They are very sweet with a vintage gown or for a garden party feeling.

These little shorties can be very sweet when done in lace or a fine netting, as well as in cotton. The wrist length gloves are often trimmed with little pearls, which would be darling if you are wearing pearl bridal jewelry.
